NEW: Nancy Pelosi Skewered For Using Bizarre ‘Southern Accent’ To Mock Christians
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) generated widespread outrage online Wednesday when she appeared to mock Christians while speaking in a bizarre, contrived “southern” accent.
During a discussion at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics, Pelosi was asked by moderator Alison King whether she agreed with sentiment from many political analysts that Democrats drifted “too far left” on a number of issues, including economic policy, immigration and social issues like gender ideology.
Pelosi dismissed the notion in a lengthy, rambling statement in which she argued that her party’s beliefs reflected those of the American public.
“I think that we are a reflection of our country … Understand this isn’t about anything coming from on high. It’s about who we are. We are a beautiful, diverse country,” the former House speaker said. “And if they find that offensive with their DEI [Diversity, Equity and Inclusion] initiatives and they want to sell it as ‘We’re all so left.’ It’s ridiculous … you can’t win from the left. You run from the center because that’s where you’re going to have to govern — from the center.”
“How can they be complaining if we want education for all of our children, whatever their ethnicity or if they’re newcomers to our country?” she added. “How could they be complaining if they say that schools want to … every white person in this room: you’re advantaged by every other person in this room because of the diversity.”
After quoting former President Ronald Reagan in order to claim that mass immigration is necessary, Pelosi went on to mock evangelical Christians while speaking in a contrived “southern” accent. “You’re people of faith? You go to church on Sunday and pray in church on Sunday and prey on people the rest of the week. What is this? What is this?” she asked in the accent while giggling.

Pelosi, 85, has not yet announced whether she will be seeking a 19th term in Congress next November. The former speaker has already drawn multiple well-funded primary challengers, including from San Francisco-based California State Senator Scott Wiener, a far-left radical known nationally for authoring a bill that classifies refusing to “affirm” a child’s gender identity as abuse that could lead to parents losing custody.
